Planting the Seed- an Introduction

Hello Everyone,

Very few of  you may be aware that I have decided to pursue a career in the beer brewing business. I have come up with an idea to create a beer brewing business based here in Orange County. The idea is to create beer(s) that are uniquely "Orange County", by having it located here in OC, but also to use OC resources such as producers, suppliers, farmers, etc. While at the same time being socially conscience and being environmentally aware of the community. Part of this goal is to also have an "organic" business, to grow naturally, and not comprimise the quality of a product for the profit. Not to say that profits are a bad thing, but to understand, its about QUALITY.  I have decided on Orange Tree Brewing Co. as the name because from taking Orange in OC, and Tree as a metaphor for something big and strong that produces something sweet we can all enjoy.

I have started this blog for a number of reasons. (1) To chronicle my venture in home beer brewing (2) as a method to keep a journal, (3) to chronicle the eventual creation of the Orange Tree Brewing Co. and to allow everyone to see whats going on in my little world

But...what is craft beer?

"An American craft brewer is small, independent and traditional. Small: Annual production of beer less than 2 million barrels. Independent: Less than 25% of the craft brewery is owned or controlled (or equivalent economic interest) by an alcoholic beverage industry member who is not themselves a craft brewer."

Also, I think of craft beer as something uniquely American. A way for us to be new, innovative, creative, explore new methods and rediscover new ones, be competative, and also be part of a community with others that share the same goals.
